Quick Data Source double check

Hello,

I know that we can view the datasets and queries here (http://innovationchallenge.azurewebsites.net/) but, I was wondering if we are supposed to use the datasets from azure (example http://nass-api.azurewebsites.net/api/api_get?source_desc=SURVEY§or_desc=ENVIRONMENTAL&group_desc=VEGETABLES&commodity_desc=BRUSSELS%20SPROUTS&agg_level_desc=STATE ) or the actual set (http://quickstats.nass.usda.gov/api) or if it makes any difference? I am of course building in such a way that it shouldn't matter which, but now that I am past some initial data observations I want to make sure that I am pulling from the right place. Rules said the official datasets, then linked to the azurewebsites, so I am assuming either is valid but wanted to double check.

    Hi Michael Adsit,

Thanks for your question. For your submission you are required to use at least one of the datasets from the Farm Data Dashboard.

The data hosted on the dashboard is made up of snapshots of real USDA data sets gathered specifically for our hackathon. These data set snapshots are representative of a large portion of the real-time data the USDA continually collects, but they are static snapshots. The dashboard exists to provide an easy access point and tools for accessing and implementing these very large data sets.

We encourage you to use additional data sets as well; just make sure you use at least one of those listed on the Farm Data Dashboard.

Please let us know if that does not answer your question!

    Hello Serena,

Thank you very much, that confirms that I include the http://nass-api.azurewebsites.net data for sure even though it is but a snapshot, and can then later implement the live source as needed.

    Thanks,

    Michael
